An analog meter consists of a hand and a dial, and reads the value at the position indicated by the hand. Meter types include ammeters and voltmeters, which are divided into direct current and alternating current types. Some allow selection of the type of meter relay model as well. They are placed on a switchboard or operation panel, and are useful for monitoring voltage and current. The operating principle is classified into a movable coil type consisting of permanent magnets, coils and pointers, and a movable iron type consisting of fixed iron pieces and pointers. The movable coil type is mainly used for direct current ammeters and direct current voltmeters, while the movable iron type is often used for alternating current ammeters and alternating current voltmeters. In addition, there are wattmeters used for measuring the amount of electricity, frequency meters for measuring the frequency of power distribution equipment, and power factor meters for balanced circuits.  ▲ Close
