Power cords compliant with Japanese standards connect electronic and electrical devices to the power source. Power cords with a rated voltage of 100 V to 300 V, rated current of 50 A and less and with 2 to 5 prongs are eligible to bear the PSE Mark (Electrical Appliance and Materials Safety Act of Japan). The plug that is inserted to the power supply outlet, along with the outlet, are standardized under JIS C 8303 as plugs and receptacles for wiring. Single-phase AC 100 V plug used in general residences and offices often feature 2 blades, with a 9-mm blade on the left and 7-mm blade on the right, using the wider blade for grounding. A plug with a round prong for grounding in addition to the 2 blades is called a grounded plug. Plugs for three-phase motor power supply may come with 4 blades.  ▲ Close
