Tape measures are used for measuring length, thickness and depth. They are mainly used for architectural and construction work. The hook at the end of the tape that serves as the zero-origin is hooked onto an object when taking measurements. The scale is provided in the metric unit and also the shaku unit, which is often used at construction sites. Tape lengths range from 1 m to 10 m, and widths from 6 mm to 27 mm. Tape measures are available in various coating options for the tape section, such as a special resin coating that is resistant to abrasion, as well as functional options like the provision of a locking mechanism.
