Prisms

Prisms are made of transparent materials such as glass, crystals, and plastic. Prism is an optics component in geometrical shape which has multiple flat faces. The prism feature is to bend and refract light rays to each spectrum. For example, after natural white light passes through a prism, the prism will refract white light to be 7 color spectrums consisting of violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. · A right angle prism is used for bending light 90° or 180°.
· The function is the same as a mirror, but by using a prism for the reflective function, in general, systems can be made more compact. Also, since the mirrored surface features a protective coating, degradation of the imaging performance due to dust and scratches is minimized.
· Caution is needed when using for white light, since chromatic aberration may occur due to the dispersion properties of the material (wavelength dependence of the refractive index).
